Old Post Office
at Ore City

During the Second World War, the federal government built a steel plant just 10 miles north of Ore City to mine the same ore that had brought Col. Featherstone to found his new city. The plant was completed just as the war ended, so it was sold as 'surplus property' to a Texas group who organized and operated it as the "Lone Star Steel Company." Many new families moved into Ore City as a result of the new plant, and the 1951, the city was incorporated, an event which was celebrated on April 7, 2001.
